Zoho vs Salesforce vs HubSpot: what 50,000 AI website chats really cost

Every business selling or supporting online eventually asks the same question: should our website chatbot run on Zoho, Salesforce, or HubSpot? All three now offer a live-chat widget backed by a generative-AI agent that can answer questions, qualify leads, and hand off to a human. The chat widgets look similar. The pricing models do not.

This guide explains, in plain language, how each platform’s AI chat agent is built and priced, then runs the same volume assumption — 50,000 conversations in a month — through all three to show what that volume actually costs. It closes with a recommendation for most small and mid-sized businesses.

A note on the numbers: HubSpot and Salesforce publish credit- and outcome-based pricing that changes in small ways throughout the year, and Zoho’s newer Zia Agents platform prices AI usage by token consumption rather than by conversation. Figures below are drawn from each vendor’s pricing pages and cross-checked against independent 2026 pricing analyses; treat them as directional and confirm current rates before signing a contract.

How each agent works

Zoho SalesIQ + Zia Agents

Zoho splits the job across two connected products. SalesIQ is the live-chat widget, visitor tracking, and operator/routing layer that sits on your website. Zia Agents is Zoho’s separate AI-agent builder, where you define an agent’s role, instructions, knowledge sources, and tools, then deploy it into SalesIQ as a “digital employee” — an AI operator that behaves like a chat agent in every routing and reporting view.

  • Agent build: a Zia Agent is configured with a role/instructions prompt, one or more knowledge sources (website content, FAQ documents, synced pages), and optional tools such as CRM lookups or a handoff action.
  • Deployment: the agent is deployed as a digital employee directly into a SalesIQ department, where it answers chats like a human operator would, with no separate “trigger” needed to activate it.
  • Handoff: the agent uses a forwardChat action to transfer a live conversation to a specific SalesIQ department (public departments face visitors; private departments hold only human staff), so escalation stays inside the same chat window.
  • Model choice: Zia Agents can run on Zoho-hosted open models (Standard and Pro tiers) at no extra cost up to a generous monthly token allowance, or you can bring your own key for OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude and pay that vendor directly.
  • Versioning: every change to an agent’s instructions or tools creates a new version; only one version is “locked” (live) at a time, which makes it easy to test changes safely before deploying.

Salesforce Agentforce

Salesforce’s chat widget is Messaging for In-App and Web, delivered through Service Cloud. Agentforce is the AI layer bolted onto it: a configurable AI agent (built in Agent Builder) that can hold a conversation, query Salesforce data and Knowledge articles, take actions defined as Salesforce Flows, and escalate to a human queue.

  • Agent build: built inside Salesforce’s Agent Builder using natural-language instructions plus explicitly defined “Topics” and “Actions” — each action is typically a Flow, Apex class, or a pre-built standard action.
  • Deployment: the agent is attached to the Messaging for In-App and Web channel already configured for your Service Cloud org; because it is deeply tied to the Salesforce data model, most of its power comes from acting on live CRM records, not just answering FAQs.
  • Handoff: escalation routes into standard Omni-Channel queues, so it inherits whatever routing and presence rules your service team already uses.
  • Licensing gate: Agentforce requires Service Cloud Enterprise Edition or above — there is no lower-cost SMB starter SKU that includes it, so the AI feature itself sits on top of an already-substantial per-seat CRM cost.
  • Pricing model: usage is metered through Flex Credits, a shared credit pool that every AI action (a query, a data lookup, a generated reply) draws down from, independent of how many messages a visitor sends within one conversation.

HubSpot Breeze Customer Agent

HubSpot’s chat widget (live chat plus rule-based Chatflows bots) is free on every plan, including the free CRM tier. The AI layer, Breeze Customer Agent, is a separate premium feature built on top of that widget and HubSpot’s Knowledge Base / Help Desk content.

  • Agent build: configured largely through guided setup rather than a full agent-builder canvas — you point it at your Knowledge Base, help articles, and optionally your CRM, and set escalation rules for when to hand off.
  • Deployment: it plugs into the same chat widget already live on your site or in-app; no separate embed code or channel setup is required once it’s turned on.
  • Handoff: unresolved or flagged conversations route into a shared Conversations inbox for a human rep to pick up, alongside your regular live-chat traffic.
  • Licensing gate: Breeze Customer Agent requires Marketing Hub, Service Hub, or Content Hub Professional or Enterprise; it is not available on Starter or Free plans, and Professional tiers typically carry a mandatory one-time onboarding fee.
  • Pricing model: HubSpot moved to outcome-based pricing in 2026 — you are charged per resolved conversation (currently roughly $0.50), drawn from a shared credit pool priced at about $0.01 per credit, rather than per message exchanged.

Same capabilities, side by side

To compare fairly, assume the same baseline: an AI agent that answers from a knowledge base, qualifies or routes leads, and can hand off a live conversation to a human.

Cost at 50,000 chats a month

50,000 conversations a month is roughly 1,600–1,700 chats a day. The widgets can look the same at that volume. The bills do not.

Zoho: tokens, not conversations

SalesIQ Enterprise (~$20/operator/month on an annual plan) includes unlimited chat volume. The AI cost is Zia Agents token consumption. Zoho-hosted Standard models include 30 million tokens/month; additional Standard usage is currently $1 per extra 1 million tokens. The current Pro model includes 20 million tokens/month, with additional usage at $3 per extra 1 million tokens.

A grounded support conversation typically runs 1,500–3,000 tokens. At 50,000 chats that is roughly 75 million to 150 million tokens/month.

Monthly tokens (50k chats)Standard overage (30M included, $1/1M)Pro overage (20M included, $3/1M)
75M tokens$45$165
150M tokens$120$390

That is modest overage on top of SalesIQ Enterprise at about $20/operator/month. You can also bring your own key for OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude and pay that vendor directly instead of Zoho-hosted overage.

Salesforce: Flex Credits per action

Flex Credits are sold as 100,000 credits for $500 ($0.005/credit). A standard AI action consumes 20 credits, or about $0.10/action. A useful planning assumption is 2–3 actions per conversation.

Actions per chatCredits at 50,000 chatsMonthly AI usage
1 action/chat1,000,000 credits≈ $5,000
2 actions/chat2,000,000 credits≈ $10,000
3 actions/chat3,000,000 credits≈ $15,000

That is AI usage only. Agentforce also requires Service Cloud Enterprise at about $165/user/month.

HubSpot: about $0.50 per resolved conversation

At the current outcome-based rate of roughly $0.50 per resolved conversation, 50,000 resolved chats come to $25,000/month in AI usage. Included credits on Professional cover only about 60 conversations/month. Add hub seat fees from about $90/seat/month and a one-time onboarding fee of about $1,500–$3,000.

Monthly cost summary at 50,000 conversations

PlatformTypical AI usage at 50k chatsBase software
Zoho SalesIQ + Zia AgentsLow — mostly a modest token overage or BYOK beyond the included allowanceSalesIQ Enterprise ≈ $20/operator/month
Salesforce Agentforce≈ $5,000 – $15,000Service Cloud Enterprise ≈ $165/user/month
HubSpot Breeze≈ $25,000Marketing/Service Hub Professional ≈ $90+/seat/month + onboarding fee

Recommendation

At this volume, Zoho is the only one of the three that stays near a free or low-cost allowance. Salesforce makes sense if you are already on Service Cloud Enterprise and need deep CRM and Flow work. HubSpot is the easiest path if you are already on Professional, but it is the most expensive at 50,000 chats.

For FAQ answers, lead qualification, and ticket deflection, SalesIQ + Zia Agents is the cost-effective pick.
